Traditional Chinese Medicine Self-Massage Techniques

Maintaining health and a higher quality of life comes from the small things we do on a daily basis. These small things go a long way to enhance our health and well-being.

These are 8 simple Traditional Chinese Medicine massage techniques that can easily be incorporated into a daily practice. Massage helps to relieve external muscle tension and assists our internal organs through better circulation, reduced stress and better emotional balance. While doing these techniques, stand or sit comfortably, and find an environment that is free from distraction .

1.    Rub Your Hands Rub your hands together for 10 times. Slow and firm works best. Interlock your fingers together and squeeze together 3 times firmly. This massage helps to improve circulation of the chest, face and fingers

2.    Rub Your Forehead Bend our two index fingers so that they are a hook, with medium pressure rub from the middle of your forehead slowly outwards to the temples. You can also rub over your eyebrows. Repeat 5 times. Helps to improve circulation to the forehead, reduce stress and refresh the mind.

3.    Squeeze Your Ears Squeeze your ears between your thumb and index finger, with medium pressure, from the top of the ear to the bottom of the ear lobe. Repeat 5 times. Please remove any ear rings before massaging your ears. Stimulates circulation of the ear, liver and kidney channels and lower back.

 

4.    Rub Your Stomach Place your entire right palm on the abdomen and cover with your left hand. Firmly and slowly rub clockwise five times then anti-clockwise for five times.

Helps to improve circulation to the abdomen to assist with digestion and bowel movements.

 

5.    Rub the Soles of Your Feet with Four Fingers Use four fingers to firmly rub the soles of your feet from the heels to the toes. Repeat 10 times.

Helps soothe sore and tired feet and improves circulation of the legs and lower back.

6.    Rub the Sides of Your Ribs Place both hands palm down over your ribs. Rub firmly and slowly in circular motions. Repeat 10 times.

Improves circulation of the liver channels and assists with bloating, bowel movements and stress reduction.

7.    Rub Your Lower Back with Your Fists Use your fists (and knuckles) to massage over your lower back including the hips. Repeat ten times.

Helps improve circulation to the lower back and legs

8.    Rub your Scalp with Your Fingertips

Use all 10 fingertips to massage your scalp. Massage the entire head with medium pressure for at least 1 minute. You can add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil on your fingertips to massage into your scalp.

Relieves tension and pressure, clears and relaxes the mind and head
